Knoppix!!!
technobeast: Where is Linux OS now more than 10 years after it’s start?
KK: In my opinion, the GNU software suite, together with the Linux kernel, have become THE most flexible and usable operating system and application software available for a vast variety of hardware platforms, for the end user as well as the embedded section. The Free Software licenses allow anyone to modify the system to fit their needs perfectly, and users (end users or companies) who you don’t want to develop or change software on their own, have the possibility to chose their software and support vendor freely. This is a huge advantage in protection of investment, also on the commercial sector, and one of the reasons why many companies, governmental agencies and private users are switching to GNU/Linux currently.
The GNU/Linux system has everything you need for daily use, apart from good non-commercial as well as commercial development environments. The OpenOffice suite allows you to have interoperability with proprietary products, and provides an open standard document format (XML with a well-specified DTD) that makes sure that you can still read your documents 10 years from now, even if a vendor decides to change his software completely. This is also a good protection of investments, open standards and open source.
